Harmonics
These days most people have heard of harmonics or throat singing...
You may have heard a performance of the Dalai Lama's Gyuto monks or perhaps the Mongolian folk-group from Tanu Tuva, Hun Hur Tu, have blasted your senses with their astonishing vocal range.But what are these harmonics, these overtones that seem to transport both the singer and the attuned listener into domains very far indeed from the mundane? Is it just coincidence that these are also the sounds produced by shamans from many different cultures to access altered states of consciousness and to journey to the Spirit World?
Music of the Spheres
Certainly there are techniques that can be learnt, but I feel that to see this form of singing as just another technique robs us of the potential for a great experience of re-connection and oneness.
I like to suggest to those who come to me for this course that rather than close their mind, that they open their ears. For harmonics invite us to embrace an attitude of heightened listening, so that we do not blindly dismiss these sounds. Sounds that have been described as the Music of the Spheres.

Says David Hykes, one of the great explorers of harmonic sounds over the past forty years. He is referring not to our sense of hearing, but to our consciousness. When we are closed down and adhere to a rigid world view that is informed by dogma, we have lost the ability to 'hear', we are only aware of our own projections.
